Second Life Meshes With Amazon S3

Second Life is focused on growing their virtual world grid. With an exponentially growing subscriber base, handling major updates became a challenge for their web presence. Rather than reinvent the wheel, they’ve turned to another proven grid:

And since Amazon’s in the web-hosting business a lot more than we are, I suspect availability and reliability will go up. The whole thing is transparent to everyone, of course- you’ll still go to the same webpage to download the client. Only the final server you will be getting it from will be somewhere in Amazon S3’s vast pool of webservers, rather than our much smaller pool.
